Corners – places still available

08/12/2018 – 10:00 AM – 04:00 PM

Welcome to our festive “corners” day. This is 4 individual guided tables that run simultaneously so that you can move around them at your leisure. This will take place at Strathpeffer community centre. £20 members, £35 non members. Bring your own lunch.

The four corners will be:
Corner 1: Quilting Loom – Sara Smith (Please see Sara’s detailed description below)
Corner 2: Dorset Buttons and Advanced Dorset Buttons – Tanya Jones
Corner 3: Blending on combs -Sue Varley
Corner 4: The Social Corner

Corner 1: Quilt Weaver Pin Loom Weaving

Portable, fun and endlessly versatile! Weaving small bias squares with 1 continuous thread is a great way to use your yarn stash or alternatively to colour plan for a larger weaving project. This corner will be run by Guild member Sara Smith. You will be tutored in basic square making using little handmade looms (available to rent after the Corners workshop from the Guild equipment library), and then move onto more advanced techniques such as multicolours, beading, using fancy yarns and combining different weight yarns for anyone interested in progressing this corner further, as there will be
sufficient time for letting your imagination run riot and creating your own unique squares after the demonstration and tuition. There will also be ideas for projects using the squares discussed to drive
your imagination. Links to other resources for remote learning, making or purchasing looms (including different shapes) and project book links will also be supplied. Basic materials will be provided, but by
all means bring your own hand spun or colour choices, beads, locks, fibre etc. (ideally aran weight or thick double knit for basic squares, but fancy, space dyed, different weights for the advanced squares)
