What to expect:

This workshop will teach you how to use pickup techniques using a heddle to produce patterns in inkle braid. Sami and Pebble weave designs will be discussed, but you will have a choice of the design you weave as this will depend of the size and style of heddle that you will be using.

You will cover:
• Ideas for uses of finished braids
• Reading pattern drafts and drawing your own pattern draft
• Warping up for pick up designs
• Following a pattern whilst weaving
• Correcting mistakes
• Starting and finishing your braid

What to bring:

Participants should have their own looms: these could be an inkle loom, a Samplet type loom or a backstrap loom. Participants should know how to warp up their looms and weave plain weave (tabby or warp facing).

If you are interested in attending, please contact Alison directly so that she can ensure that she brings a heddle suitable for use with your type of loom. alison@roddham.co.uk

Participants should try to have a Swedish style braid weaving shuttle if possible. See below.

These can be purchased from https://shop.stoorstalka.com (expensive) or wooden ones are available from Fergus at Bunloit Woolery (bunloitwoolery@btinternet.com) or they are available on Etsy. Alison says that she has two or three that she can lend people, but please ask her in advance. If anyone has any question about the workshop, please contact Alison directly.
