What is Highland Wool CIC?
Highland Wool CIC has been formed as a Community Interest Company to support a sustainable wool industry in Scotland. For more information including their mission statement, see https://www.highlandwool.scot/

What will the Tour involve?
Hot drinks will be provided on arrival and there will be an introductory talk
and health and safety instructions. This will be followed by a tour of the mill’s facilities. During the tour you will be walked through the mill’s fleece processing stations: sorting/assessing, scouring /washing, picking and carding. There will be opportunities for hands on experience. Hot and cold drinks will be provided at the lunch break, but you will need to bring a packed lunch. A microwave will be available.

How accessible is the Tour?
The mill is located on a working hill farm. The ground can be rough, and there is not (currently) good wheelchair access. Participants with light levels of accessibility issues will be offered assistance with stairs etc. There’s a moderate amount of walking between outbuildings, and participants will be on their feet. If anyone has a problem being on their feet the whole time, the tour could be adapted if notice is given in advance. The work is done indoors, but participants should wear weatherproof jackets and shoes, for walking between buildings. It can be uneven, and might be muddy, but good walking/hiking shoes will generally do it.

How to get to the Mill
Directions to the Mill are here https://www.highlandwool.scot/. If you are planning to come on the train, the mill is 5 minutes from Ardgay train station. Pick-ups from the train station can sometimes be offered, if arranged in advance. Local taxi can be arranged in advance.
