Soft Basketry Weaving Workshop

What to expect:
• You will be shown a selection of small baskets in various materials, including watercolour paper, rush, New Zealand flax, and soft garden materials such as day lilies, red hot poker, crocosmia and sedge.
• AveriI will select a couple of techniques and materials to give a good idea of what’s involved in soft basketry.
• Workshop instructions.
• At least one basket will be completed in the day and various ‘starts’ for other baskets as well.
• There will be copies of Averil’s book available for £15.

What to bring:
• Old towel to work on
• Small cutting mat
• Spray bottle
• Masking tape
• Large eyed blunt and large eyed pointed needle
• Cleaning rag
• Small clothes pegs or metal hair clips with pointed ends
• Scissors (with a fine point if possible)
• Decorative border items of your own choice such as shells, seed heads and acorns.
• Dried plant material from the garden such as day lilies, red hot poker, (optional – the instructor will also provide materials)

As usual, our workshops are open to non-Highland Guild members. Bookings for non-members will not be confirmed until 18th May 2025 (i.e. the day after the bookings deadline), when they will be treated on a first-come-first-served basis.
